Gainesville, Fla. -- Northwestern's women's tennis team wrapped up its second day of competition at the Gator Fall Classic by going undefeated in singles play and splitting its two doubles matches.
The wildcats swept Florida International in singles competition, led by No. 50 Alexis Prousis (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) and No. 11 Cristelle Grier (Epsom, England/Putney). Prousis beat FIU's 40th-ranked Paula Zabala, 6-1, 6-2. Grier then followed suit by topping Nikkita Fountain, 6-1, 6-2.
Jamie Peisel (Savannah, Ga./Savannah Country Day) won her first set against Shilla D'Armas, 6-1. D'Armas then retired the match, giving Piesel the win.
Freshman Nazlie Ghazal (Temecula, Calif./Chaparral) kept the momentum going with a win over Desanka Jovanovic, 6-2, 6-1.
Finally, Alexis Conill (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) completed the sweep by topping Bruna Discordia, 6-0, 7-6 (3).
In doubles, the team of Grier and Prousis beat Florida's Whitney Benik and Nina Suvak, 8-2.
Northwestern will be back in action Sunday, Sept 25, to take on Florida in singles action.
