EVANSTON, Ill. -- Former UIC standout Amanda Rivera is joining Northwestern as a volunteer assistant for the 2005-06 season. Rivera served as a volunteer coach for her alma mater last year.
Already a seasoned softball teacher, Rivera served as the head coach of the Oak Park Windmills' under-18 and under-12 squads in 2004-05. She was an instructor at the Northwestern softball summer camp in 2005 and also has instructed at the Diamond Sports Academy and UIC summer camp programs.
"We are excited to have Amanda join our program," NU head coach Kate Drohan said. "She had a great collegiate career and will be a tremendous help to our offensive production."
Rivera was a four-time All-Horizon League and All-Great Lakes Region honoree who highlighted her career in 2004 by earning Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America honors.
The Redondo Beach, Calif., native batted .371 with a UIC single-season record 20 home runs while driving in 58 runs as a senior, earning her Horizon League Player of the Year accolades.
Rivera ranks first in the UIC career record book for home runs with 52 while ranking in the top 10 all-time for average (.338), hits (227), RBIs (193) and walks (125).
She was a part of three league championship teams as a player and made three NCAA Regional appearances.
Rivera graduated from UIC in 2005 with a bachelor of science in movement science.
