EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern begins its 14th season of women's golf in a familiar place: the Wildcats open fall play at the Mary Fossum Invitational in East Lansing, Mich. -- a tournament that has become a staple on the Northwestern schedule.
Despite its numerous trips to the Forest Akers West Golf Course, the Wildcats are still searching for their first Fossum title. The tournament is named for the former and first MSU coach, who won six Big Ten championships during her tenure.
NU coach Chris Regenberg, the only head coach in the Wildcats' 14-year history, is welcoming back a talented group of performers to go along with freshman Jennifer Hong, who figures to make an immediate impact on the team.
Teams scheduled to compete in the tournament, formerly known as the Spartan Fall Classic, include: Eastern Michigan, Illinois, Illinois State, Indiana, Iowa, Iowa State, Kent State, Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern, Oklahoma, Princeton, Southern Methodist, Toledo and Wisconsin.
Results can be found at Michigan State Women's Golf or Mary Fossum Invitational.
