Loren Howard to Have Season-Ending Surgery and Then Transfer to Another Four-Year School

Aug. 13, 2005

KENOSHA, Wis. - Northwestern head football coach Randy Walker has announced that defensive end Loren Howard (Scottsdale, Ariz./Saguaro) will undergo season-ending surgery and then transfer to another four-year institution, where if healthy, he will play his final collegiate season.

"Our football program wishes nothing but the best for Loren Howard," said Walker. "We hope his upcoming surgery goes well and his recovery is complete and he returns to action in 2006. I'm disappointed it won't be at Northwestern University, but we wish him well wherever he ends up. We'll continue to follow his career and wish him the absolute best in both his football and personal future."

Howard finishes his career having played in 31 games and totaling 171 tackles (87 solos), 34 tackles for loss and 11 pass sacks. The TFL and sack totals rank fifth on Northwestern's all-time list. Howard earned honorable mention All-Big Ten honors in 2003, his last complete season.
