EVANSTON, Ill. -- Members of Northwestern's men's golf team continue to excel this summer in amateur tournaments around the country.
The latest Wildcats to make some noise on the amateur tour were Chris Wilson (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) and Dillon Dougherty (Woodland, Calif./Woodland). Wilson, who competed in a U.S. Amateur Sectional Qualifier as well as the Western Amateur, played an incredible 184 holes of golf in six days.
Wilson started his golf odyssey at the 103rd Western Amateur on Wednesday, July 27 at the Point O'Woods Golf and Country Club in Benton Harbor, Mich. Wilson finished eighth in the 72-hole stroke play and then advanced to the championship round of match play, only to lose 3 and 2 to Jamie Lovemark.
Following the marathon golf in Benton Harbor, Wilson played in the U.S. Amateur Sectional Qualifier at Conway Farms Golf Club in suburban Chicago. He posted rounds of 66 and 66 and finished first, claiming a berth in the U.S. Amateur, which will be held Aug. 22-28 in Ardmore, Pa., at the Merion Golf Club.
Wilson edged Dougherty in the Sectional Qualifier -- Dougherty shot a 140 for the two rounds to finish second.
