EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern men's tennis player Willy Lock (Lima, Peru/Markham College), a native of Peru, won the First Category National Championship at the Los Inkas Tennis Cup back on July 11. The Cup was played at the Los Inkas Club in the city of Monterrico, Peru.
Lock handily won his finals match in straight sets over Guillermo Echevarria 6-2, 6-1.
Lock and Daniel Grana teamed up to win the doubles championship after they overcame Echevarria and Piero Demichelli. The score of the doubles match was unavailable.
The Los Inkas Tennis Cup Championship is part of the official competition calendar of the Peru Tennis Federation. The Federation seeks to maintain activity among local tennis players that participate in the national circuit, which is intended to keep the sport of tennis in full force.
Lock recently completed his sophomore year at Northwestern with a team-best 25-10 overall record. He was 19-6 in dual action and 9-1 in Big Ten singles play. He was a perfect combined 5-0 at No. 3 and No. 5 single positions, and saw the bulk of action at No. 4 where he went 14-6.
Northwestern's men's tennis team ended the 2004-05 season with a 12-13 overall record, and advanced to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2002.
