EVANSTON, Ill. -- With the recent passage of NCAA legislation that allows a 12th regular-season football game, Northwestern has announced its revised schedule for 2006 -- the first year the new rule goes in effect.
The Wildcats have added a road game at Nevada on Sept. 23, which was previously designated as NU's open date. This will be Northwestern's first meeting with Nevada, which is a member of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). The Wolf Pack will visit Evanston the following season.
Northwestern opens the 2006 season with its first trip to Oxford, Ohio, where the Wildcats will take on Miami University in a Thursday evening game on Aug. 31. The game was originally scheduled for Sept. 2. Northwestern and Miami have played seven previous times, but all seven meetings occurred in Evanston.
The Wildcats open their 2006 home campaign against Division I-AA power New Hampshire on Sept. 9. The following week, NU remains at Ryan Field, hosting Air Force.
Northwestern begins the Big Ten season at Penn State on Sept. 30. The Wildcats will play the same eight conference opponents they are facing in 2005 -- just at the opposite venue. In 2006, Northwestern entertains Purdue, Michigan State, Ohio State and Illinois at Ryan Field. The Michigan State game (Oct. 21) is homecoming.
