Cohen and Grier Halted By Cardinal Duo in NCAA Doubles Semifinals

May 27, 2005

ATHENS, Ga. - Audra Cohen and Cristelle Grier's unbelievable season together as a doubles tandem came to an end Friday in the semifinal round of the NCAA Doubles Championships. Stanford's Amber Liu and Anne Yelsey defeated the Wildcat duo 6-2, 6-2.

The 'Cats finish the season 37-7 overall.

"Stanford played a very solid doubles game," Grier said. "We really couldn't find a way through it. They were not spectacular, nothing really special, just solid."

Liu and Yelsey's win sets up an all-Stanford doubles final against teammates Barnes and Burdette. This year marks the third time that one school has supplied both doubles duos in the championship match. In 1990, Stanford's Meredith McGrath and Teri Whitlinger defeated Sandra Birch and Debbie Graham. In 1982, UCLA's Heather Ludloff and Lynn Lewis topped teammates Kathy O'Brian and Helena Manset.
