Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, whose district includes Northwestern University and the City of Evanston, issued the following statement:

"Sunday was a great day for the City of Evanston and Northwestern University, when the women's lacrosse team led the university to its first NCAA title since 1941. I congratulate the team on its many accomplishments this season -- as the undefeated national Division I champions, the first women's lacrosse team west of the Eastern time zone to win a national championship, and the second NU team ever to win an NCAA title. Since it took only four seasons at the varsity level for this team to win a national title, I expect that many more achievements lie ahead for these Wildcats. You go, girls!"

U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) said:

"I join sports fans across Illinois in cheering our newest NCAA champions -- the Northwestern University Wildcats women lacrosse team. After an undefeated season, their triumph on Sunday is a testament to their hard work, skill and dedication and all of us in Illinois are proud of their accomplishment."
