LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- After the second round of the NCAA West Regional Championships, the 17th-seeded Wildcats are in a tie for 14th place with Arizona.
The Wildcats (41-over, 311-306=617) are 12 strokes behind Oklahoma State and Oregon, who are tied for seventh place at 29-over. In order to earn a team spot in the NCAA National Championships, the Wildcats must finish among the top eight teams.
Ina Kim (Encino, Calif./Harvard-Westlake) led the way for Northwestern on Friday, shooting a 2-over 74. She is 11-over (81-74=155) for the tournament and in 55th place.
After an outstanding first round yesterday, Alice Kim (Los Angeles, Calif./Brentwood) remains in the hunt for an individual national championships berth after shooting a 6-over 78. She is in 12th place, and tied for the second of two spots (with UNLV's Young Pak) awarded to individual golfers.
Brittany Johnston (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) matched her 6-over 78 from Thursday and is 12-over (78-78=156) and in 63rd place. Sophomore Heather Scholten (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) shot a 4-over 76 and is 68th at 13-over (81-76=157).
Kelly Robb (Concord, Mass./Middlesex School) is in 106th place at 24-over (81-86=167).
