EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern sophomore Chris Wilson (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) was named the Big Ten Conference Men's Golfer of the Week for his recent performance at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship.
Wilson finished a career-best sixth at the powerful Mercedes-Benz event, held at Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., on Feb. 20-22. Thirteen of the 17 teams entered in the annual tourney are ranked in the top 50 in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin index.
Wilson fired a personal-best 2-under 70 in the third round to post a 3-over 219 (72-77-70) for the tournament. He finished the tourney with a second-most 38 pars. In the final round, Wilson carded 13 pars and four birdies on 17 of his 18 holes.
Wilson was coming off a seventh-place finish at last October's Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge.
This is his first Big Ten weekly honor.
