PARRISH, Fla. -- Sophomore Alice Kim (Los Angeles, Calif./Brentwood), the 2004 Big Ten Freshman of the Year, fired a 3-under 69 on Tuesday -- the second-lowest 18-hole score in school history -- to finish sixth at the Central District Classic. Kim, along with Texas A&M's Christa Spedding, both recorded tourney-best 69's on Tuesday.
Kim was on pace to tie the school record of 68, but a bogey on her next-to-last hole, dropped her back to 3-under. Kim finished three strokes behind Arkansas' Stacy Lewis and Michigan's Amy Schmucker, who recorded even-par 216's for the tournament. Kim's three-round score (73-77-69=219) was also the third-lowest score in Northwestern history.
As a team, the Wildcats finished 11th overall, two notches higher than their 36-hole standing. Missouri held off Arkansas to win the team title by two strokes.
Sophomore Heather Scholten (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) turned in a 4-over 76 on Tuesday to finish 41st at 16-over (79-77-76=232). Freshman Brittany Johnston (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) placed 52nd (83-78-75=236) after shooting her best round (3-over 75) of the tournament.
Sophomore Kelly Robb (Concord, Mass./Middlesex School) and senior Ina Kim (Encino, Calif./Harvard-Westlake) finished 64th and 71st, respectively. Robb carded a 25-over 241 (87-76-78) and Kim had a 29-over 245 (82-80-83).
