PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- Sophomore Chris Wilson (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) fired an even-par 72 on Sunday at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship and is tied for 13th place, two strokes off the lead. As a team, the 32nd-ranked Wildcats are in 16th place with a 20-over 308. Defending Mercedes-Benz champion South Carolina owns a two-stroke first-round lead over LSU.
Wilson picked up where he left off from the fall. In his final fall event, he placed a career-best seventh at the Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge. Wilson had rounds of 74 and 72 there, and an even-par 71 in the previous tournament, the Alister MacKenzie Invitational.
Freshman Dan Doyle (Rochester, Mich./Stoney Creek) is in 38th place after shooting a 3-over 75 on Sunday. Sophomore David Merkow (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead Union) is 69th with a 6-over 78.
Northwestern juniors Bryson Young (Reno, Nev./Galena) and Dillon Dougherty (Woodland, Calif./Woodland) are 85th and 87th, respectively, with scores of 83 and 85.
