EVANSTON, Ill. - 16th-ranked Northwestern suffered its second defeat of the season and in the conference Friday evening by falling to seventh-ranked Minnesota 28-10.

Freshmen Jake Herbert (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny), Mike Tamillow (Oak Park, Ill./Fenwick) and junior Matt Delguyd (Mayfield Heights, Ohio/Mayfield) all posted victories for the Wildcats, but it was not enough to overcome the Golden Gophers.

17th-ranked Delguyd kicked things off at 197 lbs. against Matt Koz. After a fairly uneventful first round, a pair of takedowns by Delguyd in the second round brought the match to 4-0 in his favor. The Ohio native then sealed the match in the third round, winning 5-2 and recording his team-leading 22nd victory on the season.

Next up was 13th-ranked freshman Dustin Fox (Galion, Ohio/Galion), who faced off against second-ranked Cole Konrad at heavyweight. The two behemoths banged away at each other most of the match, with few scores. Konrad finally notched a point in the second round. Fox went into the down position at the beginning of the third round and Konrad rode him the entire period to eke out a 1-0 victory.

Minnesota then recorded six more consecutive victories to solidify a 28-3 lead.

At 174 lbs., third-ranked Herbert provided some fireworks for the Welsh-Ryan crowd by scoring a takedown with less than 30 seconds to go in round one, getting on the board first. But his opponent countered with a quick escape, sending the two into the second frame with Herbert on top 2-1. The Wexford, Pa. native extended his lead by a point in the second round to 3-1. Herbert netted three more points to take home a 6-1 decision, maintaining his perfect record at 20-0.

The 16th-ranked Tamillow provided the evening's finale by dominating his opponent at 184 lbs. The freshman recorded a 13-5 major decision to run his season record to 21-7.

Northwestern next travels to 17th-ranked Michigan State for a Sunday, Feb. 6 bout at 1 p.m.
