EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern senior Tommy Hanus (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) has earned the season's first Big Ten Conference Athlete of the Week honors for men's tennis.

Hanus was perfect in Northwestern opening the season with a pair of wins against Chicago-rival DePaul and Western Michigan. The senior posted a 2-0 doubles record alongside junior Adam Schaechterle (Oconomowoc, Wis./Kettle Moraine) and also recorded a singles win against the Broncos.

Hanus and Schaechterle won their doubles matches by counts of 8-4 and 8-2, while Hanus added a straight-set victory against Western Michigan, 6-4, 7-5, as the Wildcats' No. 1 singles player.

This is Hanus' first career Athlete of the Week selection. He is the first Wildcat player to claim the weekly honor since Brad Erickson on March 22, 2001.

Northwestern is next in action at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21 against Oklahoma in the Combe Tennis Center.
