EVANSTON, Ill. - Mike Thompson (Joliet, Ill./Providence) and Andrea Hupman (Lawrenceville, Ga./Brookwood) have been named Northwestern's Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week.

Thompson had a stellar week for the men's basketball team, leading the Wildcats in scoring twice while shooting a sizzling 75 percent from the field (12-of-16). In NU's Big Ten opener against Indiana, the Duke transfer was 7-of-10 from the field en route to a career-high 18 points; he added three rebounds, two assists and two steals as the Wildcats defeated Indiana for the third straight season at home. It was also NU's first win in a conference opener since 1983. Saturday at Michigan State, Thompson scored 16 points and was 5-of-6 from the field including his first career three-point basket. Thompson also snared four boards.

Hupman played a key role in Northwestern's upset of No. 23 Tennessee over the weekend. Hupman posted first-place finishes in both the 50 and 100 freestyle events and also swam the team's strongest leg in the 400 free relay to ice The Lady Vols. Tennessee held a slim advantage over NU's Ashley Welnhofer (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) after the first leg, but Hupman swam a 49.76 second 100 yards to give NU's `A' squad a commanding lead. NU would go on to win the meet 184-167. This is Hupman's second Athlete of the Week honor this year.
