Nov. 16, 2004

EVANSTON, Ill. - Kelsey Hans, a freshman forward on the Northwestern women's soccer team, has been selected as one of 12 nominees for the Soccer Buzz National Freshman of the Year honor.

Hans is one of just three Big Ten women on the list, along with Big Ten Rookie of the Year selection Lara Dickenmann from Ohio State and Penn State's Denay Riley.

Soccer Buzz is widely considered arguably the premier website in the nation dedicated to women's college soccer. The site's National Player of the Year and National Freshman of the Year will be voted on by the college coaches.

Hans had a spectacular campaign for the `Cats in 2004, setting the school record for goals in a season with 15 and finishing three points shy of the single-season point mark with 32. She scored in 12 different matches, including six separate Big Ten Conference contests. Hans also set school marks for goals (7) and points (15) in Big Ten play.

Hans was a second-team All-Big Ten selection as well as a member of the Big Ten's All-Freshman Team. She helped the Wildcats finish 10-8-2 this season, including a 5-4-1 Big Ten mark that allowed them to tie for fifth place in the standings.
