Prousis Wins Singles and Doubles Title at Milwaukee Classic

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern sophomore Alexis Prousis (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) defeated teammate Valerie Vladea (Tiffin, Iowa/Minnesota) 6-3, 7-6 to win the singles title at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic hosted by Marquette this weekend.

Northwestern had a strong showing in the tournament, as the semifinals matchups were composed entirely of Wildcats. Vladea beat junior Feriel Esseghir (Sarasota, Fla./UCLA) 6-0, 4-6, 7-6 to advance to the finals, while Prousis defeated freshman Alexis Conill (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) 6-2, 6-3 to move on to the title round.

Prousis won the doubles competition as well, teaming with Vladea to defeat Esseghir and senior Andrea Yung (San Marino, Calif./San Marino) 8-1. Prousis and Vladea had defeated junior Jamie Peisel (Savannah, Ga./Savannah Country Day) and senior Kristi Roemer (Piedmont, Calif./Piedmont) to advance to the finals. Esseghir and Yung moved on to the title round on the strength of a 8-6 win over Hiranrat and Remynse.
