EVANSTON, Ill. - Freshman Audra Cohen (Plantation, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) and senior Cristelle Grier (Epsom, England/Putney) won the doubles title Monday, Oct. 25 at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional Championships.
The duo defeated Macall Harkins and Brianna Knue 8-3 in the finals to capture their first title as a doubles team.
In singles action, No. 1 seed Cohen, No. 2 seed Grier and sophomore Alexis Prousis (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) all won their quarterfinals matchups early on Monday, advancing to the semifinals. Cohen defeated Cynthya Goulet of Illinois 6-3, 6-3. Grier beat Hala Sufi of Purdue 6-1, 6-1, while Prousis outlasted Hillary Mintz of Iowa 7-5, 7-5.
In the semifinals, Cohen beat Prousis 6-3, 6-3, while Grier defeated Katie McGaffigan of Wisconsin 6-2, 4-6, 6-1. Cohen and Grier are set to face each other in their third finals match of the fall season. Cohen is 2-0 against her teammate, beating her in the finals of Rice Classic 6-3, 7-5. She also defeated Grier 7-6 (2), 6-2 to claim the ITA All-American Singles Championship.
