EVANSTON, Ill. - Three Northwestern doubles teams won their opening matches of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional Championships Friday, Oct. 22.
Juniors Feriel Esseghir (Sarasota, Fla./UCLA) and Jamie Peisel (Savannah, Ga./Savaannah Country Day) opened the day by defeating Rohrer and Tellefsen 8-1 in the round of 64. The duo dropped their second round match in the round of 32 though to Exon and Yaftali 7-9.
Freshman Audra Cohen (Plantation, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) and junior Cristelle Grier began their day in the main draw of 32 by beating Goldstein and Rutherfod 8-4. Sophomore Alexis Prousis and graduate student Valerie Vladea (Tiffin, Iowa/Minnesota) also started in the main draw, where the defeated Drake and Martinez 8-1.
After winning her first two singles matches in the qualifying section of the tournament, freshman Alexis Conill (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) fell in the third round to Pascale Schnitzer of Michigan State. Conill and senior Kristi Roemer (Piedmont, Calif./Piedmont) also dropped their doubles match to Bailey and Dowiatt 8-3.
