Wildcats Travel to Michigan for Regional Championships

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern travels to the University of Michigan this week to compete in the International Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Championships Thursday, Oct. 21 through Tuesday, Oct. 26.

The Qualifying rounds begin Thursday, Oct. 21 and will feature sophomore Willy Lock (Lima, Peru/Markham College) and junior Adam Schaechterle (Oconomowoc, Wis./Kettle Moraine). Lock is seeded second and will play Chris Clark of Toledo in the opening round. Schaecterle is seeded 16 and will face off against Sean Moran of Western Illinois in the first round.

Senior Tommy Hanus (Palatine, Ill./Palatine), sophomore Christian Tempke (Wentorf, Germany/Gymnasium LohbrÜgge), senior Chuck Perrin Atlanta, Ga./The Walker School), and sophomore Matt Christian (Troy, Mich./Brother Rice) will begin competition in the main draw Saturday, Oct. 23, which runs through Tuesday, Oct. 26. Senior Justin Hoeveler (Ross, Calif./The Branson School) is the first alternate into the singles and will go into the draw if any player in the field pulls out.

The doubles main draw begins Saturday as well with Hanus and Perrin, Christian and Shaechterle, Tempke and Hoeveler, and sophomore Jamie Friedland (Glen Cove, N.Y./St. Stephen's) and Lock competing together.

The two singles finalists and the doubles champions automatically qualify for the ITA National Indoor Championships Nov. 4-7 at Michigan.
