EVANSTON, Ill. - Senior setter Drew Robertson (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Poly) and the men's soccer team have been named Northwestern's Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week.
Robertson continued to assault the stat sheet this past weekend, recording her third-straight double-double -- 49 assists and 18 digs -- in leading NU to its second Big Ten victory over Purdue Friday evening. She one-upped herself against Indiana on Saturday by posting a rare triple-double of 11 kills, 27 digs and 57 assists in the 'Cats close loss to the Hoosiers, 3-1.
The men's soccer team notched a historic victory Sunday, defeating the defending national champion Indiana Hoosiers for the first time in the program's history, 1-0. Sophomore Brad North (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands) scored the matches only goal in the 39th minute on assists from Kevin Earnest (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) and John Carlstedt (Indianapolis, Ind./Brebuef Jesuit), and the Wildcat defense made it stand up. Sophomore Justin Pines (Media, Pa./Strath Haven) made five saves in goal for his first solo shutout of the season. The win also was the 150th of Tim Lenahan's head coaching career and the first regular-season Big Ten win for NU since 1999.
