EVANSTON, Ill. -- Sophomore goalkeeper Justin Pines (Media, Pa./Strath Haven) has been named the Big Ten Defensive Co-Player of the Week after making five saves in Northwestern's 1-0 shutout over third-ranked and Big Ten leader Indiana.
The shutout was Pines' first solo effort of the year. He has three combined shutouts with junior Brian Heckenbach (Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs).
The win was Northwestern's first ever over the defending national champions, and its first in regular season Big Ten play since 1999. The Wildcats snapped the Hoosiers' three-year, 31-match home winning streak.
Pines is NU's first conference Defensive Player of the Week honoree this year--both Will Nicholas (Orefield, Pa./Parkland) and Brad North (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands) have earned the Big Ten's Offensive POW nod this season.
