EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's women's golf team opens its fall season at the Lady Northern Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 11-12. The 54-hole tournament is being hosted by the University of Michigan at the University of Michigan golf course in Ann Arbor, Mich.
The Wildcats return their entire NCAA starting unit that fell just eight strokes shy of qualifying for the NCAA National Championships. The trio of Kelly Robb, Alice Kim and Ina Kim led NU to an eighth-place finish at last year's Lady Northern and are back this year. Individually, Robb finished in a tie for 11th and ended the season as NU's leader in stroke average (77.53). Kim posted a team-leading three top-10 finishes and was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year. Robb finished second in the voting.
This year's Lady Northern is serving as a preview of the 2005 Big Ten Championships, which also will be played on the U-M Golf Course. All 11 Big Ten schools are taking the opportunity to play the course this weekend. Kent State, Missouri, Notre Dame and Oklahoma round out the 15-team field.
The U-M Golf Course will be set up to play as a par-72 and 5,966 yards long. Teams will play 36 holes Saturday followed by 18 Sunday. Tee times start 8:30 a.m. (7:30 CDT) both days.
