EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern lost to No. 20 Ohio State in three games (23-30, 17-30, 25-30) Saturday night at Welsh-Ryan Arena in its second Big Ten match of the season.

"It was good to see a few of the girls take steps forward and improving individually," assistant coach Ryan Theis said. "But as a team, we didn't match Ohio State's aggressiveness."

The `Cats spread their scoring around pretty evenly, with freshman Courtnie Paulus (Belgium, Wis./Ozaukee) nailing eight kills, freshman Stephanie Jurivich (LaGrange, Ill./St. Ignatius) recording six kills, and sophomore Julie Purcell (Louisville, Ky./Assumption) notching six kills.

After making a brief appearance last night against No. 4 Penn State, senior Leah Delcourt anchored the middle for the `Cats for much of the night against the Buckeyes. Delcourt is working her way back from a finger injury, but her veteran presence on the court showed for NU, as she recorded two blocks.

NU's defense was busy most of the night with All-Big Ten candidate Stacey Gordon of Ohio State. Gordon recorded a double-double -- 20 kills and 12 digs.

NU is next in action at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 29 when they host Wisconsin.
