EVANSTON, Ill. -- Junior Jonathan Fields (Sweeny, Texas/Sweeny) of football and senior Candice Cooper (Winnetka, Ill./Winnetka) of field hockey have been named Northwestern's Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week.
Fields became just the fourth player in Northwestern gridiron history to top the 200-yard mark for receiving yardage when he hauled in eight passes for 202 yards in the Wildcats' season-opener at TCU.
Fields, who entered the game with two career catches, caught three touchdown passes, which tied NU's single-game mark. His TD receptions went for 6, 69 and 63 yards. Through the first week of the college football season, Fields leads the nation in receiving yardage per game.
Cooper scored eight goals in three games last week, including back-to-back hat tricks in Wildcat wins Friday over Ohio University (6-0) and Sunday against Fairfield University (5-1).
She began the week with a two-goal performance Monday at regional foe Kent State. She now has 62 career points, good for 18th place on Northwestern's all-time scoring list.
