EVANSTON, Ill. - The U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials are taking place in Long Beach, Calif., this week and Northwestern freshman Matt Grevers is making the most of it. The Lake Forest, Ill. native has advanced to the 100-meter backstroke finals, with an outside chance to make the U.S. Olympic team for the Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece.
Grevers swam a preliminary time of 55:39 and a semifinal time of 55:13. Aaron Peirsol of Irvine Novaquati set the pace with a prelims time of 54:93 and a semis time of 54:22.
The finals take place tonight and can be seen on NBC (Live): 8-9 p.m. (ET).
