Chris Boyer Named Northwestern's Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs

June 30, 2004

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern University athletics director Mark Murphy has announced that Chris Boyer, NU's assistant athletic director for marketing and sponsor services the past three-plus years, has been promoted to associate athletic director for external affairs, effective immediately.

As associate athletic director for external affairs, Boyer will supervise marketing, promotions and sponsor services, media services, as well as the sports of baseball, cross country, fencing, men's tennis and women's soccer.

"I'm very happy for Chris and know that he will do a great job," said Murphy. "His knowledge of Northwestern and a proven track record at three institutions, coupled with an active involvement on the national scene, make him an excellent addition to our senior staff.

"What impressed me the most about Chris was his enthusiasm and passion for Northwestern and Northwestern athletics."

A 1996 graduate of Maryland, Boyer worked in marketing and promotions at West Virginia (1996-98) and Villanova (1998-99) before moving on to a marketing and public relations position for The FANSonly Network (now College Sports Online) in 1999. He remained with FANSonly until he accepted Northwestern's marketing position in April, 2001.

In addition to his undergraduate journalism degree, Boyer also has a master's of science degree in sport management, which he earned at West Virginia.

Boyer succeeds Brad Hurlbut, who earlier was promoted to associate athletic director for intercollegiate administration.
