EVANSTON, Ill.--The six-time defending Big Ten Champion Northwestern women's tennis team will carry the No. 10 seed and play host to an NCAA Regional Championship May 15-16 at Vandy Christie Tennis Center, the NCAA announced today.
The ninth-ranked 'Cats (23-4), who earned the Big Ten's automatic bid for winning the conference tournament last week, will be making their ninth-consecutive appearance at the NCAA Championships. Their regional pool consists of Notre Dame, Iowa and the Wildcats' first-round opponent, Illinois-Chicago.
"I am excited to have the regional tournament here," said head coach Claire Pollard, whose teams have gone to the national tournament all six years she has been at NU. "I hope we can have the same support as we did last weekend (as hosts of the Big Ten Championship); the fans were key to our success."
The winners of the 16 regional sites will move on to Athens, Ga. for the remaining rounds of the NCAA Championships May 20-23. The singles and doubles competitions will follow May 24-29 at the same location.
