April 19, 2004

EVANSTON, Ill. --Northwestern has named Dan Pohlman (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) and Alice Kim (Los Angeles, Calif./Brentwood) its Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week.

Pohlman hit .583 over the weekend, going 7-for-12 in NU's four-game series against Purdue. The senior hit an extra-inning, game-winning home run in the series opener, giving Northwestern a 7-6 victory. He also hit a home run and a double in a game-three losing effort.

For the weekend, Pohlman notched three RBIs, scored five runs and threw three runners out from his catching position. He was issued two walks and hit a sacrifice fly.

Kim continued her outstanding spring, posting her third top-four finish in the last four tournaments with a career-best second-place effort at Purdue's Lady Boilermaker Spring Invitational. The freshman had rounds of 74, 75 and 75 to finish three strokes behind Indiana's Danah Ford, the tournament champion.

On Sunday, with the winds gusting at better than 25 miles per hour, she finished with the best score of the third round--seven strokes better than Ford.
