EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's women's golf team travels to Cypress, Texas this weekend for the Texas A&M "Mo"Morial. The two-day tournament will be played at Black Horse Golf Club beginning Monday.
The 36th-ranked Wildcats are coming off a sixth-place team finish in the Central District Classic last week. Freshman Alice Kim (Los Angeles, Calif./Brentwood) played the best golf of her young career, finishing fourth overall.
"Alice had a wonderful tournament in Florida and the confidence is building within this team," NU coach Chris Regenberg said. "The team did a nice job of adapting to the changing wind conditions last week and that was a good sign. Their playing instincts are returning after hitting balls indoors for so long."
Northwestern is looking to improve upon last year's 13th-place showing in a rain-shortened "Mo"Morial. Junior Mary Ellen Grzebien (Saunderstown, R.I./Narragansett) led the Wildcats in that tourney with a 13-over 157.
"February was a successful month of learning," Regenberg said. "We feel we are improving with every round we play. Right now we need to keep playing and competing to maintain our momentum. If we putt well, we will be in the top three team scores this weekend."
