NU heads to Iowa after one of the most exciting dual meets in recent years. Despite falling to No. 10 Michigan 165-133, the Wildcats put together perhaps their most impressive showings of the season.
Freshman Matt Grevers set two pool records and one individual school record. His split of 47.13 set a school record and qualified him for the NCAA Championships in the 100 backstroke. He won the individual 100 backstroke event with a time of 48.86.
He also broke a Norris Aquatics Center record with a time of 1:44.30 in the 200 backstroke. Grevers was named Big Ten Swimmer of the Week for his performance against the Wolverines.
Grevers is just one of many Wildcats looking to improve on their times as the Big Ten and NCAA Championships creep closer. Tony Swanson, who garnered Big Ten Swimmer of the Week honors and CollegeSwimming.com National Swimmer of the Week after a record-setting day in the Wildcats 155-133 win over Notre Dame on Jan. 24, is another Northwestern swimmer who has already qualified for the NCAA Championships.
Northwestern's relay teams have been simply dominant in the last month, winning both the 400 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay events in each of the last three meets. The 400 medley relay team broke a school record against Michigan, clocking in at 3:15.22.
Iowa is coming off a 166-129 victory over Missouri, Saturday. Friday's meet begins at 6 p.m. while Saturday's is set for 11 a.m.
