EVANSTON, Ill.--Northwestern has named Jitim Young (Chicago, Ill./Gordon Tech) and Vicky West (Redlands, Calif./Redlands) its Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week.
Young, a senior guard, led Northwestern in both games last week, including a career performance against Minnesota on Saturday. In that game he had eight rebounds, three steals and 31 points, the first 30-point game by a Wildcat player since Evan Eschmeyer dropped 30 on Michigan State in the 1999 Big Ten Tournament.
In NU's overtime loss at Penn State Wednesday, Young led the team with 16 points and seven boards, and added two assists and two steals.
West, a senior swimmer, posted two first-place finishes in her final meet at the Norris Aquatics Center to lead the Wildcats past Iowa 163-128. West claimed first in the 500 and 100 freestyle events with times of 10:08.23 and 5:00.15. Both times were season-best marks.
West has posted Northwestern's fastest times in those events all season.
