Matt Grevers Honored as Big Ten Swimmer of the Week

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern's Matt Grevers has been named Big Ten Swimmer of the Week for his spectacular performance in the Wildcats' dual meet against Michigan Saturday. This marks the second time this season Grevers has been honored with swimmer of the week accolades. It is also the second week in a row a Wildcat has been given the award. Tony Swanson won the award last week.

Grevers was simply dominant against the Wolverines. He set two pool records and one individual school records. Grevers swam the backstroke leg of the Wildcats' 400 medley relay team, which broke a school record with a time of 3:15.22, an automatic NCAA Championship qualifying time.

His split of 47.13 set a school record and qualified him for the NCAA Championships in the 100 backstroke. He won the individual 100 backstroke event with a time of 48.86. He also broke a Norris Aquatics Center record with a time of 1:44.30 in the 200 backstroke.

Grevers also swam a blistering split of 42.89 in the 'Cats' record-breaking 400 freestyle relay. Grevers and the Wildcats are back in action Fri., Feburary 6th when they travel to Iowa for a dual meet with the Hawkeyes.
