SAN JOSE, Calif.--For the second-straight year, Julia F?ldi (Budapest, Hungary/Szent Istavan Gimnazium) finished with a top-15 performance in the senior/division 1 competition of the USFA North American Cup.
F?ldi, part of a three-person NU foil squad at the event, took 12th out of 91, just two spots below last year's finish. Jessica Florendo (Forest Hills, N.Y./The Dwight School) ended up 28th, while Christina Wang (Milpitas, Calif./Castilleja) withdrew due to injury.
"In terms of division 1 events, the fencers did quite well," said head coach Laurie Schiller. "The results, however, are not reflective of how well the team can fence, but for a month's layoff, I am happy overall."
Florendo also finished 14th out of 97 in the junior foil competition.
For the epee squad, Sharon Sullivan (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) was 33rd out of 91 in the senior/division 1 competition, while Courtney DuBois (Chatham, N.J./Oak Knoll) tied for 69th.
Sullivan, DuBois and two other NU epeeists will fence in Sunday's junior women's epee competition.
