EVANSTON, Ill. - Center Trevor Rees (Pearland, Texas/Pearland) was named a first-team freshman All-American by the Sporting News today. Rees was also named to the Sporting News' Big Ten All-Freshman team.
Starting the final eight games of the season, Rees-a true freshman-became NU's starting center against Ohio State on Sept. 27. He played a key role in the Wildcats' rushing successes, which averaged over 200 yards per game. NU's 200.2 yards per contest was good enough for second in the Big Ten and 21st in Division I.
Rees is one of 11 Big Ten first-year players acknowledged by Sporting News. Purdue offensive tackle Mike Otto, Indiana safety Will Meyers and Michigan State punter Brandon Fields joined Rees on the first team.
