NU's Seeded Doubles Teams Dominate

Oct. 24, 2003

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Two Wildcat doubles teams cruised to easy victories in advancing to Day 2 of the doubles draw at the ITA Midwest Championships hosted by Western Michigan.

Top-seeded Cristelle Grier (Surrey, England/Putney) and Jessica Rush (Dallas, Texas/The Hockaday School) whipped the Xavier duo of Stephanie Bauer and Lauren Clary 8-2, then followed it up with an 8-1 rout of Michigan State's Caroline Lay and Sarah Andrews.

They will face Notre Dame's Lauren Connelly and Kristina Stastny on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Jamie Peisel (Savannah, Ga./Savannah Country Day) and Alexis Prousis (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest), seeded 9-16, pounded IPFW's Lisa Bartelheim and Jessica Vervynckt 8-1, then beat Ohio State's Lindsey Adams and Meaghan Colville 8-3.

The Peisel-Prousis pair will next compete against Indiana's Karie Schlukebir and Linda Tran.

The two other NU pairs competing today were not as fortunate, however.

Andrea Yung (San Marino, Calif./San Marino) and Ruth Barnes (Cambridge, England/Hills Road Sixth Form College) were edged by Michigan's Kara Delicata and Kavitha Tipirneni 9-8.

Also, Stacy Kokx (West Bloomfield, Mich./Marian) and Georgie Wolffer (Sagaponack, N.Y./Westminster) were topped by Butler's Alaina Griffin and Christian Laun 8-5.

The main doubles draw will continue through Monday. Meanwhile, the main draw for singles competition will begin tomorrow, with the final being held on Tuesday.
