Nationally Ranked Wildcats Head to Minnesota for Second Dual Meet of the Season

Oct. 30, 2003

EVANSTON, Ill. - After opening the season in impressive fashion last weekend, the Wildcats head to Minnesota Saturday for their second dual meet of the year.

The 'Cats opened up the season with a 150-79 romp at UW-Milwaukee and followed that performance with a first-place finish at the NU Relays in Evanston.

Seven pool records fell over the course of the weekend; six of them at UW-Milwaukee and another at the Norris Aquatics Center.

Freshman Matt Grevers and senior Mark Hamming individually broke or were members of relays teams that saw all seven fall. Grevers broke the UW-Milwaukee pool records in the 100 free (44.76) and the 100 back as well as the NU 100 back mark, while Hamming bested previous marks in the 200 fly with a time of 1:50.18 and a 1:52.66 mark in the 200 IM at UW-Milwaukee.

Both were members of the 400 medley and 400 free relay teams that also set pool records.

Senior Tony Swanson won both the 200 free and 200 back events against the Panthers as well.

NU cracked the Collegiate Swimming Coaches Association of America Top 25, entering at No. 22. The Gophers, meanwhile, are ranked No. 8.
