EVANSTON, Ill. -- Sharon Sullivan (Fairport, N.Y./ Fairport) paced Northwestern to a strong showing at the U.S. Fencing Association's Remenyik Open this past weekend at the Sports Pavilion and Aquatic Center.
Sullivan took the championship in women's ep?e, topping a seeded-field of 36. Freshmen Sara Pecherek (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) and Courtney DuBois (Chatham, N.J./Oak Knoll) also had strong showings in ep?e, earning eighth- and tenth-place finishes, respectively.
The Wildcats also dominated the top-ten finishes in foil as Julia F?ldi (Budapest, Hungary/Szent Istavan Gimnazium) took second, with Jessica Florendo (Forest Hills, N.Y./The Dwight School) finishing close behind at third.
Foilest Christina Wang (Milpitas, Calif./Castilleja) rounded out the top ten with her seventh place finish.
In sabre, newcomer Mai Vu (New York, N.Y./Bronx Science) had a squad-best second-place showing, followed by Lauren Dunn (Fair Oakes, Calif./Del Campo) at fifth. Fellow Wildcats Sophie Eustis (Andover, Mass./Concord Academy) and Emily Pasternak (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) finished consecutively at 13th and 14th.
After an alumni homecoming meet on Friday, NU returns to action at the Ohio State Duals and Open Nov. 1-2 in Columbus, Ohio.
