EVANSTON, Ill. - After dropping the first two matches of the season to Kansas and Mizzouri and being out scored by a combined count of 6-1, the Wildcats were looking to ignite their attack in game one of the Wildcat Classic against Florida Atlantic.
They had to wait for over 106 minutes to do it, but the NU offense knocked in a goal when it needed it most on Shannon Schneeman's game-winner in double-overtime to give the Wildcats a 1-0 victory over the Owls.
Neither attack managed to get much going during regulation. Florida Atlantic (3-1-0) was only able to get six shots off in the entire match. NU goalkeeper Whitney Jones did not face a single shot on goal. In the opposite net, Owl goalkeeper Molly Keating made two saves.
In game two of the Wildcat Classic, Ohio knocked off Minnesota, 3-1. Tiffany Horvath paced the Bobcats with two goals in the match. Northwestern will square off with Ohio on Sunday at 3 p.m.
