MANHATTAN, Kan. -- Northwestern's men's golf team dropped from 11th to 24th place on Friday, after shooting a 20-over 308 in the second round of the NCAA Central Regional Championships at the Colbert Hills Golf Course. The Wildcats are 11 strokes out of 10th place, the cutoff for teams advancing to the NCAA national championships.
Senior Bjorn Widerstedt (Vasteras, Sweden/Carlforsska Gymnasiet) continued his strong play, shooting a 1-over 73 to finish the second round in an 11th-place tie, five strokes behind leaders Judd Easterling (Wichita State) and Jason Moon (North Carolina State). Widerstedt has a 2-under 142 (69-73) through 36 holes.
Northwestern's Tom Johnson (Sacramento, Calif./Del Campo) has the next best score for the 'Cats at 3-over (71-76=147) and is tied for 48th place. Senior Scott Harrington (Portland, Ore./Jesuit) and junior Casey Strunk (Phoenix, Ariz./Thunderbird) are 9-over and tied for 111th place.
Illinois continues to lead the tournament, holding a two-stroke lead over North Carolina State.
The final round begins Saturday morning.
