EVANSTON, Ill. - The 19th-ranked Wildcat women's tennis team begins its quest for a fifth straight Big Ten title Friday afternoon as they take on seventh-seeded Michigan. The match will be held at the Atkins Tennis Center on the University of Illinois campus at 1 p.m.
Northwestern (16-8, 8-2) earned a bye for the first round as the No. 2 seed. A year ago, the Wildcats captured their fourth title in as many years, defeating Wisconsin 4-1.
The seventh-seeded Wolverines defeated 10th-seeded Indiana Thursday afternoon, 4-2, to advance to the quarterfinals. Michigan enters the match 13-8 on the season. The Wildcats defeated Michigan 6-1 to close out the regular season last weekend.
