Ashley Gersuk Named to Inside Lacrosse Honor Roll

April 8, 2003

EVANSTON, Ill. - Sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Gersuk (Loudonville, N.Y./Albany Academy) was named to the Inside Lacrosse Honor Roll this week. She becomes the third Wildcat player to be nationally recognized by the publication this season, after Courtney Flynn on March 4 and Courtney Koester on March 11.

On Sunday, Gersuk had arguably her finest game between the pipes since she arrived at Northwestern, as she came up with 13 saves and allowed just six goals to the University of Connecticut. As a result, the Wildcats were able to knock off the 19th-ranked Huskies 8-6, and on Monday NU replaced them in that spot in the latest Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll.

The Warrior/Inside Lacrosse Division I National Player of the Week was Gail Decker of James Madison. Decker had nine goals in the Dukes' three games last week, including four as JMU knocked off then-No. 1 Maryland and a hat trick in a 12-11 loss to No. 4 Virginia.

Gersuk earned honorable mention along with Erica Evangelista of Monmouth, Gloria Lozano of Georgetown, and Carley St. Lucia of Boston College.

Gersuk -- who has played all but 30 minutes in the cage during her NU career -- has compiled an 8.89 goals-against average this season and made 79 saves. She has a .497 save percentage for the season.

In addition to Gersuk's honor, Northwestern (6-3, 1-3 American Lacrosse Conference) was placed back in the Inside Lacrosse Power Poll at No. 20 (the IWLCA poll is considered the official women's lacrosse poll by the NCAA).
