MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Northwestern women's tennis team had its 29-match conference win streak snapped Sunday afternoon with a 4-3 loss to Minnesota (13-5, 6-1) at the Baseline Tennis Center. The 'Cats fall to 13-7 on the season and 5-1 in the Big Ten.

Northwestern surrendered the doubles point as Michaela Havelkova and Brandi Watts defeated Jamie Peisel and Connie Chiang 8-6 at No. 3 for the first, and deciding, point of the match.

Cristelle Grier extended her dual match record to 19-0, and gave NU its first point of the match with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Angela Buergis at No. 1. Jessica Rush's 6-2, 6-0 win over Valerie Vladea at No. 2, put NU on top, 2-1. The Golden Gophers tied the match at two, as Nischela Reddy defeated Ruth Barnes, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5. Watts claimed the victory at No. 6 with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Kristi Roemer to give the Gophers the lead again. NU rallied back, as Peisel came from behind to defeat Amy Thomas, 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3. With the match tied at three, Havelkova defeated Andrea Yung at No. 4 in three sets, 7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-3, for the win.

Northwestern will travel to Penn State for a match against the Nittany Lions next Saturday.
