COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - After day one of the 2003 NCAA Championships, Northwestern rests in seventh place among women's teams with 21 points. Stanford also posted 21 points on the women's side. NU is 15th overall, despite not having a men's squad.
Sophomore Julia F?ldi (Budapest, Hungary/Szent Istavan Gimnazium) registered the 'Cats' best individual performance of the day. She is currently 11th in the foil competition after winning nine bouts on the day.
The freshmen trio of Emily Pasternak (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier), Sharon Sullivan (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) and Christina Wang (Milpitas, Calif./Castilleja) had a solid day. Pasternak (sabre) and Sullivan (epee) led the way, ending the first four rounds in 18th place. Wang picked up three wins, putting her in 20th place in the foil draw.
Penn State sits atop the women's standings with 56 points, while Notre Dame is the combined leader.
