WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Northwestern had its three-match winning streak snapped Friday night at Purdue, falling 5-2 in West Lafayette, Ind. The 'Cats dropped the doubles point, losing two of three matches and could not rebound for the win. The loss dropped NU to 8-3 overall and 1-2 in Big Ten play.

Josh Axler (Huntington, N.Y./Walt Whitman) and Adam Schaechterle (Oconomowoc, Wis./Kettle Moraine) won their fifth consecutive doubles match, improving their record to a team-best 14-6. The 60th-ranked duo in the country is 7-4 in dual action.

Sophomore Tommy Hanus (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) continued his dominance in singles competition, picked up his eighth straight win at the No. 1 spot. Hanus dropped Scott Mayer in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, and upped his 2003 dual record to 9-1, including 3-0 in the Big Ten. At 18-8 overall, Hanus is just two wins shy of equaling his win total of all of last season.

Schaechterle picked up the other NU singles victory, defeating David Robinson, 6-4, 7-5. The freshman is 13-8 overall for the second most wins on the team.

Northwestern returns to action at 6 p.m. Saturday against top-ranked Illinois.
