Nine 'Cats Earn All-Conference

EVANSTON, Ill. - For their efforts throughout the season and at last weekend's Midwest Collegiate Championships, eight Northwestern fencers earned all-conference honors. Two 'Cats garnered first-team honors, five received second-team recognition and two earned honorable mention accolades.

Sophomores Julia F?ldi (Budapest, Hungary/Szent Istavan Gimnazium) and Lauren Van Gieson (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) were awarded first team honors. F?ldi placed third in last weekend's foil competition while Van Gieson took second in sabre.

Freshmen Sharon Sullivan (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport), Christina Wang (Milpitas, Calif./Castilleja) and Emily Pasternak (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) continued their successful debut seasons, each making the second team. Sullivan joined Kelsey Nencheck (Morristown, N.J.Morristown) on the ep?e squad, while Pasternak joined Lauren Dunn (Sacramento, Calif./Del Campo) on the sabre team.

Sophomore Genevieve Bieniosek (Litchfield, Ohio/Buckeye) and Kate Rigot (Martinez, Ga./Lakeside) earned honorable mention recognition as an ep?eists.

Northwestern is next in action this Saturday at the Midwest Regionals, its fnal competition before the NCAA Championships March 22-23.
