PARRISH, Fla. -- Heading into the final round of the Central District Classic, Northwestern's Elizabeth Burden (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest) and Ina Kim (Encino, Calif./Harvard-Westlake) are in the hunt for the tournament's individual championship. The final round is scheduled for Tuesday.
As a team, the Wildcats are 11th among 15 teams, 19 strokes behind the leader, Baylor University. Seven Big Ten schools are competing in the tournament, which is being co-hosted by Michigan State and Northwestern. Ohio State (+42), Michigan (+43) and Michigan State (+53) are in front of the Wildcats, while Illinois, Indiana and Minnesota trail NU.
Burden turned in a 6-over 150 (78-72) and is tied for fourth place, one stroke behind a trio of players. She shot a team-best even par 72 in the second round to vault within one stroke of the leaders. Kim is tied for 11th at 8-over par (75-77).
Lauren Grzebien (Saunderstown, R.I./Narragansett) shot a 1-over-par 73 in the second round after starting the tournament with a 13-over-par 85. She is in 29th place heading into the final round.
