EVANSTON, Ill. -
Aaron Jennings (Atkins, Iowa/Benton Community) of the men's basketball team and Carmen Cosgrove (Perth, Western Australia) of the women's swimming and diving squad took home Hilton Garden Inn Athlete of the Week honors. The two were recognized for their athletic competition from the week of Jan. 27.
Jennings has been playing some of the best ball of his career, and last week was no exception. He had 13 points at Wisconsin, along with a team-high five rebounds, two blocked shots and three steals. At Ohio State, he led the Wildcats with 15 points. Jennings shot 50 percent from the field on the week (11-of-22) and also buried four three-pointers. He is averaging 13.7 ppg in NU's last nine contests.
Cosgrove celebrated Senior Day on Saturday by breaking the Norris Aquatics Center pool record in the 200 butterfly. Her time of 2:00.85 broke the record of 2:00.95 set by Tennessee's Nicole Bassi just two weeks earlier. Cosgrove also finished first in the 100 fly with another season-best time of 55.00. Her result was exhibitioned due to the Wildcats' large lead at the time. She also swam a leg on both of NU's winning relay squads. The 200 medley relay squad posted a season-best time of 1:45.02, and the 800 freestyle relay team captured first place in 7:41.69.
