TAMPA, Fla. - Freshman pitcher Alicia Hollowell allowed only two hits while striking out 12 as No. 2 Arizona, the defending national runner-up, defeated the Northwestern softball team 6-0 Sunday. It was the final game for both teams in the Louisville Slugger Invitational. Arizona finished the tournament a perfect 5-0, while NU posted a record of 3-2.

Lauren Schwendimann (Tustin, Calif./Foothill) worked six innings for Northwestern, allowing six hits while walking three and striking out seven. NU stranded just one base runner in the contest.

The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning when Arizona was able to push across a single run. The Wildcats then broke the game open with three runs in the fifth and added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth.

Wendy Allen, a transfer from Ohio State, recorded two hits, including a solo home run, for UA. Jackie Coburn also recorded two hits for the victors. Arizona outscored its opponents 23-1 in the tournament.

Brett Nakabayashi (Irvine, Calif./Irvine) and J.C. Kira (Honolulu, Hawaii/Saint Francis) each notched a base hit for Northwestern.

The Wildcats return to action Feb. 14-16 when they travel to Tucson, Ariz. to compete in the Arizona Pepsi Classic.
